My Story
I was born and raised in Vermont, and my husband Dave and I still call Vermont home. However, we spend every winter on Kaua'i, Hawaii. My outlook on cooking melds the cultures and the flavors of these two places. The tropical colors and ingredients on Kaua'i have been especially influential in my cooking style.
My approach to eating is to appreciate all foods in moderation. About 90% of the time, I focus on fresh produce, whole grains, and plant-based proteins. But I also adore a good cocktail alongside some salty snacks and I love to bake, so you'll find some more indulgent treats sprinkled throughout my primarily whole-food recipes.
I've been a vegetarian for almost 25 years and am a true lover of eating plants. I eat a dominantly vegan diet, but do occasionally enjoy local, family farm dairy since it's such an important part of the Vermont foodscape. Most of the recipes on this blog are vegan, and the ones that aren't usually have suggestions for making them vegan.
When I'm not cooking, you can usually find me doing some sort of athletic endeavor. I'm a weight lifter, hiker, and all-around lover of anything that moves my body. During 2020-2021, I walked more than ten miles a day for 365 consecutive days!
It means the world to me to have such a wonderful community based around this little blog. It's for YOU that I do what I do. I hope this blog provides some good ideas, useful tips, and new challenges. Now let's have some fun in the kitchen!
